Summer is a great time to take your dog out and about with you. We have compiled a list of the best dog friendly walks around your area so that you and your pup can get out and explore nature!

Dogs love to run; sometimes we can’t always keep up. That’s why off-leash dog parks and walks are a great way for your pup to burn off that excess energy and build on their social skills as well. Make sure to always pay attention to signs and regulations as many dog friendly areas will require your pooch to stay on their lead.

Newfarm to Tenerife: Brisbane

A leafy riverside trail that includes the option for a meander through an ex-convict farm and racecourse that is otherwise known as New Farm Park. Through this walk, near the Brisbane Powerhouse is an off leash dog park for your dog to run free. Close by to this walk is Oxlade Drive which is very dog friendly. Providing water bowls for the dogs and great coffee for us humans.

CoImslie Recreation Reserve: Brisbane

On the South bank, off Lytton Road in Morningside is a spacious off-leash dog park. This park includes agility equipment to keep your dog challenged. As well as the park, dogs are also permitted to cool off in the river. This doggy destination is a greats place to take the whole family, with a children’s playground, jetty and picnic shelters.

This park is the perfect spot for a walk and then relaxing picnic under the forest canopy. Dogs are allowed on the shared trails only, provided they are kept on leash at all times.

Kedron Brook Floodway: Brisbane

This includes a string of parks between Brookside and Toombul shopping centres. Grange Forest Park in Stafford includes a leash-free dog run. Continuing on, there is a wide unfenced off-leash area for your dog to run and play – it follows Kedron Brook for several kilometres from Gordon Park to Lutwyche Road. Downstream from the Gilbert Road Bridge at Grange is a long grassy leash-free area that is a social hotspot for pooches and their owners. This will build on your pups socialisation skills whilst keeping them happy and active.

Gold Coast Regional Botanical Garden: Benowa

Just 10 minutes from Central Surfers, this is a great place for dogs to play in. There is a large area for dogs to pay and socialise in and nice water hole for your pup to cool down in.

Hinterland Regional Park: Mudgeeraba

This park hosts a special off-leash doggy playground with plenty of agility equipment to challenge and entertain your dog. The rest of the park calls for great walks – just make sure your pup stays on leash in these areas.

Dawson Phipps Park: Gatton

This dog friendly park is a great place to take the whole family. It has shelters, seating, a barbeque area and a playground for the kids!

Summer is a great time to get outdoors with your dog. Remember to always make sure you have water for your furry friend and that the ground is not too hot for their sensitive paws. A great way to test this is the five second rule – place the back of your hand on the ground for at least five second, if you are unable to hold it there it is too hot for your dog to walk.
