I am a local girl, growing up in Geebung and attending St Kevin's Primary School. I graduated as a veterinarian from the University of Queensland in 1983 and have worked in many northside practices over the   course of my career. I love the diversity and challenge this wonderful profession provides, I can honestly say there is never a dull moment. I purchased this practice in October 2000 and have been working hard ever since to build the modern, well equipped facility we have today. In 2016 I sold the practice to National Veterinary Care but remain passionate about my patients and clients in my new role as Lead Veterinarian. I am very proud of the dedicated team of healthcare providers I have the privilege of working with every day....each and every person here is 100% committed to our mission focus which is "To be the BEST community veterinary practice in Brisbane".

I am a member of the AVA (Australian Veterinary Association),  the ASAVA (Australian Small Animal Veterinary Association, the BVP (Brisbane Practitioners Branch), AVFP (Association for Veterinary Family Practice), the American Veterinary Dental Society (AVDS), the International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management (IVAPM), the AVA Dentistry special interest group and VIN ( Veterinary Information Network) and have presented lectures both in Australia and overseas.

VIN is a subscription based internet community of some 40000 veterinarians world wide, which keeps us abreast with the latest developments in veterinary medicine, and also gives us the ability to access specialist veterinarians in over 50 areas of expertise.

My areas of special interest and expertise include dentistry, internal medicine and wellness and preventative medicine and I achieved my Membership in Small Animal Dentistry and Oral Surgery in 2015. I am blessed to have three beautiful daughters who make me proud every single day.

Dr Louise Michie
Vet (maternity leave)
  • BVSc (Hons)

I grew up in semi-rural Victoria and the Sunshine Coast hinterland before attending the University of Queensland where I was awarded by Bachelor of Veterinary Science with Honours in 2006. Prior to joining the Zillmere Vet team in 2012 I worked in small animal practices in the greater Brisbane area as well as undertaking a 2 year internship in Veterinary Pathology at UQ.

My particular areas of interest are in veterinary pathology, internal medicine and preventative health care. I have also expanded my interest and knowledge in veterinary dentistry since working with the Zillmere Veterinary Surgery team.

My husband and I have two mischievous and adorable brown Burmese cats and have recently welcomed a French Bulldog puppy to our family – every day they make us laugh and wonder at their antics.

I grew up in on a farm in north-east Victoria and graduated from The University of Melbourne veterinary school with honours in 2002. I started out thinking I wanted to be a dairy cow vet and worked in rural mixed practice for 4 years in Victoria and Tasmania. While I loved the variety of mixed practice, the drought’s impact on the dairy industry meant veterinary services gradually became more herd focused and I found I enjoyed the detailed individualised medicine of small animals the most. I have since worked in many small animal practices in Victoria and Brisbane and joined Zillmere Vet Surgery in 2020.

My interests include small animal medicine, soft tissue surgery, behavioural medicine and anything highly unusual or challenging. In 2016 I published an article in the Journal of Feline Medicine and Surgery about a new finding in a rare orthopaedic syndrome in cats - Digital Flexor Musculotendinous Contracture in two Devon Rex Cats. I loved the challenge of scientific writing and being able to contribute to the wider veterinary community’s knowledge. In 2018 I completed a year-long course in veterinary behavioural medicine and have greatly developed my skills in both preventative behavioural medicine and helping owners to understand and treat their anxious pets.

I live with my husband, a german coolie dog who refuses to age, and a cat who is gracefully accepting and taking advantage of her age. I wind down by kicking and punching people – all in good fun and in a nice way by practicing and teaching karate. I also love to mountainbike and often holidays are planned around where the best trails are.

Dr Dion Woodborne
Orthopaedic & Soft Tissue Surgeon
  • BVSc
  • MANZCVS (Surgery)

Being born and raised in South Africa, Dion had the kind of introduction into a career in the care of animals that Australian trained vets only get to dream about. As a school leaver, Dion studied Nature Conservation, and worked for 3 years for the Natal Parks Board as a ranger, working amongst the amazing wildlife of Africa on land and at sea. Dion’s exciting experiences include getting up close and personal with Great White Sharks and Seals off the South African Coast, whilst participating in the tagging and monitoring of these magnificent creatures.

Dion completed his Veterinary degree and went on to work in large and small animal practices in South Africa, the UK, and NZ before settling on the Sunshine Coast with his young family.  Their home is a menagerie of creatures, with birds and dogs, and a blue tongue lizard, which Dion and his daughters reared after rescuing it from a roadside as an injured baby. Dion is an avid water sportsman; he has solo swum the English Channel and is now a keen kite boarder.

Dion is passionate about surgery, and in 2011, after rigorous written and oral examinations, he gained his Membership to the Australian College of Veterinary Surgeons, in Small Animal Surgery.

Toulouse

Toulouse came to be our clinic cat after being found as a stray when he was around 2 weeks old. We hand reared him and fell in love so decided he could stay. His favourite past times include sleeping in the linen cupboard, bird watching, breaking open bags of food and snuggling up to clients.
